After a long holiday weekend, the Department of Defense finally got back to work Wednesday, awarding 19 separate defense contracts worth $449.3 million in combined value. Among the publicly traded companies winning contracts:
•Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT ) was awarded a $33 million contract modification to continue providing essential, highly specialized services to the U.S. Missile Defense Agency in support of Ballistic Missile Defense System flight tests through Dec. 31.
•Bell Helicopter Textron (NYSE: TXT ) was awarded $13.5 million cost-plus-fixed-fee delivery order to repair/overhaul five unspecified "high priority items" on U.S. Marine Corps UH-1Y Venom utility helicopters and AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters by January 2017.
•Elbit Systems (NASDAQ: ESLT ) subsidiary EFW was awarded an $11.7 million option exercise instructing it to supply nine helmet display tracker system, or HDTS, kits and 29 Helmet kits for use aboard Marine Corps AH-1W Super Cobra helicopters, and to install 54 of these HDTS systems. Work on this contract should be completed in December.
•Airbus' (NASDAQOTH: EADSY ) EADS-NA subsidiary was awarded a $9.4 million contract modification to support logistics related to U.S. Army UH-72 Lakota utility helicopters through Dec. 31.
