2013 Beginner Portfolio Year End Review

In 2013 there was a new change made in 2013 at SheffStation & that was to start a beginner portfolio for my readers to view. I had to have specific principles & guidelines for this portfolio so that the goals were attainable for all investors whether new, average, or experienced investors. All trades were posted on my sight in my Beginner Portfolio Trading Grid & trades were sent via e-mail real-time or as close to real-time as possible.

This portfolio started with a balance under $12,000. This was for my readers with less than $12,000 that were looking to see trades like theirs. I tried to grow this portfolio as I have others by consistently locking in profits of 10-20%. Some traders might have thought it was short sighted of me in positions/securities they might have gone long that I sold to so, but the goal was to maximize profit & minimize risk. Had a goal one year to achieve the goal of 25K. I am sure that I could have ridden gains from positions during the year for much longer & more than the 10-20% but decided not to.

My readers have requested about me doing this, so to meet that request I started the beginner portfolio for 2013.

Readers on my thread wanted to see how I can grow a smaller balance into a larger one by year’s end as many wanted to do it themselves. They saw this in 2009 when I started with $3,600 to close to 3 million now. My goal for 2013 was to get this beginner portfolio to $25,000 by end of 2013. That would be a 105% increase over the current level. What the portfolio did was finish with a year end balance of $52K -10K (Withdrawals for kids education in 2013) and put this at just above $42K. This is an educational savings account (ESA) for my little guy so I could afford to be aggressive short-term while conservatively locking in nice gains. The return % from $11.7K to current balance of $42K is almost a 300% gain year end 2013.

I will continue to utilize the same strategy & approach in 2014 as I did in 2013. My goal in 2014 is to grow this ESA Account to over 100K by year end. An aggressive goal to hit the 6 figure mark from 11K in only 2yrs but I think the chances are good with so many biotech catalysts lined up for traders. Continued success to all traders. Traders on this thread had a great year and I look forward to 2014 as well with the same success and trading ideas that help readers here, looking to grow their porfolios, everyday.
