NVIDIA officially unveils Tegra 4: offers quad-core Cortex A15, 72 GPU cores, LTE support

The specs are just as expected. There's another write-up on Anandtech as well.

Curiously, the "first Tegra 4 device" is this thing called the "Shield", which is a portable gaming console, with an Xbox-like controller and attached 720p 5" display, running Android. Via a button, the user can switch between the raw OS (useless, IMO), and a shell that's customized for gaming.

IMO, I don't see this gaming console being popular. Android games are not up to the caliber of console games. They are more casual in nature, and people can play them on a tablet. If someone had to choose a game controller vs. a tablet, who would pick the game controller? And who would pay for both, when there are actual consoles and portable consoles available from the major players?

I think Jen-Hsun is bitter about losing the consoles to AMD, and they built their own system, but it will be a lemon.

But even more interesting - why not show a tablet as a "first Tegra 4 device", rather than this bastardized game console? Is it because of Tegra 4 thermal issues, per chance...? nVidia hasn't even shown a mock-up or hinted at a tablet design, yet this silly console wanna-be product is front row and center. Interesting....
