Psychology and Religion

Since the subject of this board is "religion and politics" I want to ask - does religion (as a political and cultural phenomenon) precondition people to be victims of the psycopath?

Would a focus on Spirtual reality rather than religious dogma make one less vulnerable to these types - or would it make them more vulnerable as they would be more focused on the Spiritual potential of the individual as opposed to the damning psychology?
