S&P 500, Nasdaq indexes end lower; Dow up slightly

SAN FRANCISCO (Marketwatch) -- U.S. stocks ended mixed on Thursday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average turning up late in the session to end at 13,597.16, up 19.2 points, or 0.1%. The S&P 500 Index ended down a fraction of a point at 1,460.27, after falling as low as 1,449.93 early in the trading day. The Nasdaq Composite Index declined 6.66 points, or 0.2%, to 3,175.96.
