Spoke with Costco. Taking everything I posted as is...I am merely quoting/summarizing what the Costco representative told me. Make what conclusions you want on your own.
The Medipendant is selling well by Costco's standards. If you want exact numbers (which I have by the way), please contact me via private message. I won't post it on the public board. Costco has tested the product thoroughly and felt it was the best in its class and that Costco could effectively market it and sell it to its customers. Many samples of the Medipendant have been on Costco's testing site, and MDHI employees (I'm assuming Howard, Ronnie, etc.) had to present it to Costco's buyer group, which basically decides what sells in the stores. As a personal note, if you haven't seen this video (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_QUPSC0ycg), I suggest you do....it has more details on Costco's selection process on what products they will sell...their buyer group is pretty picky on what they choose to sell in the stores. Basically, to summarize, the representative said that Costco only picks high quality products to sell to their customers (their brand name is very valuable, and they have a very high reputation to uphold), and that the Medipendant was tested and played around with many times, especially because "it affects life/death situations involving our customers, so we were extra careful while taking a look at it and backing it up with our name before selling it."
They also understand that this isn't a high volume product like toilet paper, but one that will sell steadily over time.
