A new technology is now available for Michigan’s courthouses and correctional facilities in the form of kiosks that take care of monetary transactions. Thomas Parker, president and managing partner of EZ Payment Systems, LLC, has confirmed that his first order of booking and release kiosks has been delivered. The booking and release kiosks arrived on May 13, 2011.

EZ Payment Systems has the exclusive rights in Michigan to install these kiosks in county and state facilities. The system will make it possible for institutions to cut costs on personnel and security while increasing revenue gained from convenience fees charged by the kiosks.

The same kind of kiosk is already being used in other states such as Nevada, California, Colorado, and Texas.

Cutting costs in county and state facilities often involves cutting staff hours and eliminating services. This has led to longer lines and waiting time at cashier counters that take care of payment services in many locations.

To ease the burden on cashiers caused by longer lines and more required services, lobby and booking room kiosks can be installed to handle almost any transaction that may be needed. The kiosks can be programmed to accept payments for fines, fees, court costs, property taxes, child support, bail, and even impound fees or probation payments. Any payment normally taken by a cashier could ultimately be completed by using a kiosk.

EZ Payment Systems, LLC is bringing this service to Michigan and is already in the process of arranging for kiosk installations in several counties. The company in based in Novi, Michigan. Local management of services is a great advantage to the state and should ease the transition of facilities adopting this latest technology in the money management of the state’s criminal justice departments.
