He wasn't the best, he was ONE of the best.

He certainly wasn't a "cordial" opponent. He introduced the doctrine of total warfare when he ordered everything not bearing a Union flag destroyed, burned and killed.

He was ruthless, harsh, abrasive and incredibly intelligent.

You could say he was the antithesis of Longstreet.
