American Campus Communities, Inc. is a self-managed and self-administered equity real estate investment trust (REIT) specializing in the acquisition, design, financing, development, construction management, leasing and management of student housing properties. The Company has four segments: Wholly-Owned Properties, On-Campus Participating Properties, Development Services and Property Management Services. Through its taxable REIT subsidiaries (TRS), the Company provides construction management and development services, primarily for student housing properties owned by colleges and universities, charitable foundations, and others. In January 2012, the Company acquired 26 West Apartments in Austin, Texas and a controlling interest in The Varsity in College Park, Maryland.
