DOE Announces Funding Opportunity for Applied Research and Development in Hydrogen Storage Technologies
March 18, 2011

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Fuel Cell Technologies Program today announced the availability of up to $12 million to advance hydrogen storage technologies for use in fuel cell powered vehicles and other applications. The funding will be made available for applied research and development projects in two topic areas:

•Development of low-cost, novel hydrogen storage vessels and/or low-cost fibers for composite tanks to reduce the overall costs of hydrogen storage
•Development of novel, practical hydrogen storage materials for diverse applications.
Aligned with DOE’s goals to accelerate high impact innovations that drive down the costs of low-carbon energy sources, this funding opportunity solicits applied R&D that will enable advanced hydrogen storage technologies for both stationary and light-duty vehicle transportation applications. Subject to annual appropriations, up to $12 million in DOE funds over the next 3 years will be available for research and development of hydrogen storage technologies including lower cost compressed tanks, advanced materials, and innovative concepts. A nonfederal cost share of 20 percent will be required for all applicants.

The deadline for applications is April 29, 2011. For more information and to apply, search for reference number DE-FOA-0000421 at FedConnect, or read more on Grants.gov.
