In advance of President Barack Obama's visit this week, Orion Energy Systems Inc. said late Monday afternoon that it expects revenue for its fiscal third quarter to be 54 percent higher than a year ago.

Orion Energy (NASDAQ: OESX), a Manitowoc-based provider of energy efficient lighting and energy management systems, said it expects operating income to be at the highest level for any quarter in the firm's history. For the third quarter ended Dec. 31, Orion is projecting operating income of $2.7 million, up from $600,000 a year ago. The firm's order backlog has risen to $8.6 million from $5.1 million a year ago, but is down from $13.7 million at the end of its fiscal second quarter of 2011.

President Obama is scheduled to visit Orion Energy Wednesday on a visit to Wisconsin, when he will address the economy and talk about business in the Manitowoc area.
