A Truly Great Product: I just had to write and tell all here about a great product and service I have discovered. As you that know me here on GUNS know I've grown rather fond of the Mosin Nagant Rifles and the round they fire (7.62x54). I have purchased four of these rifles/carbines now. I have two M44's, a M38, and 91/30. If I had any complaints about these rigs it would be that they shoot corrosive ammo and I hate the stubby little bolt that is mounted somewhat forward. The forwardness of the bolt really does not bother me, but the little stubby straight bolt I must admit I am not too fond of. However, they are great rifles, truly accurate and the fact that they are cheap to shoot does not hurt none either. I took one of my M44, (The M44 & M38 are just 91/30 with their barrels shortened - the M44 has a side mounted Bayonet and M38 does not) and removed the sleeve that holds the front sight and bayonet lug on the carbine. I blued the barrel and installed it in an ATI fiberglas stock with a scope mount and a bent bolt kit.

The stock needed a lot of carving, and this is hard materiel to remove, and I had to remove a lot of it! The bent bolt handle kit IMO is POS!



I was very disappointed in the cheap feeling and still somewhat stubby bent bolt handle. Then one day on GunBroker.com I found a guy who does custom bolt handles for the Mosin Nagant and specialized in doing handles for the ATI kit stock, and better yet he repaired the bent handle of the ATI kit which required cutting off the original handle! All of this and for $55.95 $49.95 + $6.00 return shipping) with a turnaround usually within seven-days.



BTW, I purchased just the Low Profile Bent and Extended Bolt -Handle and not the pull ring. BTW, they will remove any number scratched into the bolt and finish it in satin or polish it for the same price of $55.95, I had my bolt polished.

This guy offers other versions too, A couple of different extended Bolt Handles with and without Pull Rings. I like the job he did for me so well I purchased a extended 30 degree swept back with a 5% degree Tip Out down for my Stock M38 (My only conversion here was a Rubber Butt Pad-Really Helps!)

OBTW: While reading one of the gun forums I discovered a great tip on cleaning Corrosive ammo bores and chambers. Before cleaning with Copper Solvent and Bore Cleaner Solutions, first run four or five Windex soaked patches through the bore and receiver, then a couple of dry ones; then clean as usual.

It used to take me about thirty patches or and this new process cut it down to about half as many patches and passes with a bore brush. I used this on three rigs with the same results, I'm impressed!
