S&W took advantage of all the work put into the 10mm and got their 40 S&W online and pushed out there before the 10mm got truly noticed. I'm big fan of the 40S&W, but many tell the 10,mm is actually a bit better. But then again, the 357SIG is a truly great round and you convert most any 40S&W turned into a 357SIG with just a barrel change, if the frame and slide are up to it's powerful blast.
