Scripture says yes as you pointed out.
In fact many stories in the Bible where God created things like the hands on the wall to happen in order to teach a lesson.
This idea though that the pope brings out his PC GARBAGE trying to CHANGE GOD'S word is a crock of CRAP!
That remark by him brought out a whole storm of people against God's word on Social media. Does he not understand consequences?
God's word is full of sayings that seem to say one thing one time and another another time but when one looks at the big picture they get all they need in order to follow God.
People are always looking for excuses not to.
The pope just gave them another one.
I know. I know. People say, "It's the thought that counts, not the gift," but couldn't people think a bit bigger?!
