You are referring to the Vurb360, which also does 4k360° video, stitched within the camera, it uses H.264 codec instead of H.265 like the GoPro, so you can use it with iPhones prior to the 7. It also overlays gps track, compass, altimeter, velocity data, and it also pairs with and displays data from HR monitors and other sensors.

Now if you check the lower end of the spectrum, Garmin also offers product of similar capabilities and price to the lower end GPRO product.

As far as racers/athletes, you should check the Garmin website...road cyclists, mountain bikers, triathletes, etc. Garmin is also becoming more common to see at Motocross and off-road motorcycle events.

So ya...I think there is reputable competition for GPRO. You can keep drinking the Kool-Aid if you want..I got tired of the taste long ago.
