Eight years is a new one on me. SEVEN years is how far back the IRS can go when they charge you with tax fraud, but then again you can receive an undocumented sum on Jan 1, 2000 and you haven't got to report it until April 15,2001. Then add the seven years they have to catch you.
Just a surmise on my part, but it makes sense.
