The entire Finger Lakes region of NY (Gmenfan)
Is very nice and away from the urban areas!
Leave the Rochester area off the list ... It's a crap hole and really not considered the Finger Lakes region.

Spent little time in Syracuse and more @Hudson Valley. Pretty busy in Man'h to get away but this is a nice reminder to get on the Expressway & 9W.

Try Flagstaff or Prescott to Payson Arizona. (Nearly Invisible)
You might get up one day and think "what am I doing so far from home?"
All you have to do is drive into Phoenix for 10 minutes, and you can turn around and know your decision to leave the summer heat was wise.

..late August in Yellowstone/Grand Teton area (cintrix)
- The towns surrounding it are nice - Gardiner, West Yellowstone, Jackson, and Bozman. It is very cool early mornings but warms up.
