Backlog example,

FCEL wins a PPA award from PSEG Long Island for 40 MW of cell installations. Since the project carries a 20 year timeline the company claims the projected revenue for the full 20 years as backlog. They indicate the project added $800m to the backlog and that is probably true, but what they are really saying is that PPA's will generate around $1m/yr in revenue per MW.

It's not a matter of clearing the backlog via more efficient production.

Backlog also includes future service and maintenance revenues.
