I looked at the link you sent me about the WAVSTAT device. I think it has a lot of potential for widespread acceptance as long as the cost is not prohibitive. If a patient has a colonoscopy at age 50, most insurance companies consider it a screening colonoscopy and they will pay for that. But if that same patient is found to have polyps, the doctor must remove them and send them to the lab to see if they are cancerous. When that happens, many insurance companies change the coding of the procedure to a diagnostic colonoscopy. When that happens, they won't pay for the lab analysis of the polyp or the colonoscopy.The patient gets stuck with a big bill for both services! This keeps a lot of people from going to have a colonoscopy, too expensive.The WAVSTAT could potentially change everything, bringing many more patients in for colonscopy and making a lot of money for gastroenterologists!
