I don't worry about my credit cards at all because any fraud there is easily covered by the bank who issued the card. Last year on one of my cards, fraud was committed 3 times. Just got a new card with new numbers and never missed a beat. The banks have gotten so good at recognizing fraud that they usually stop it themselves. Last year someone tried to charge groceries across town from where I live and they stopped it.

But I agree with you that my bank accounts are my main concern even though my bank says they will cover any fraud also. So to be as safe as I can, I do not have a debit card, so no way to get cash from an ATM or charge something that debits my account directly. I spend so little cash that a few hundred dollars will last me for months.

I am very pleased with the online security of IB. I don't even worry about signing in on an unsecure internet connection. After the normal log in process, they then give me 2 numbers between 1 and 254. I have a little card for each account. I then go to that card and look up the corresponding 3 alpha/digit code for each number and type it in. Odds that I ever use the same code are only 1 in 64,516.

There is almost no way that anyone could get money out of my Schwab Account. Money can only go to a bank and if anyone tried to change my bank account I would be getting all kinds of notices.

My biggest concern is someone buying furniture or a TV by opening up a credit line at the store. I have done this twice in the last 5 years and each time I had to talk to someone at one of the credit agencies. They asked me questions that only I would know the answer to. But if they did manage to get it done, I know it would be a pain to correct, but I will deal with it.
