When a person's words negatively impacts an entire group of people.
Taken from the proverb "A bad apple spoils the bunch."
The mike (device for converting nasty thoughts into twitter & board posts) are received by others, the rest of the apples, as "in one ear and out the other" without any influence or effect. (aka) unheeded noise
The result is that the mike is viewed by the remaining apples as a malfunctioning device.
