of course there are shorts in penny stocks...my post was confined to making the point that is it economically impossible and there is absolutely no profit motivation in shorting a stock trading at 0.0001..if one can find a stock trading at say 0.50 which research indicates could trade down to ,say, 0.20 ,and if one can legally short the stock by obtaining a borrow and putting the trade into a fully funded margin account of course a short trade would be indicated..and totally legal .. one would be risking being wrong and having to cover at a higher price than the price at which one put on the short but there is a clear and definable profit motivation that would justify the risk...
shorting is and always has been a totally legitimate market activity and the ability to legally short is a vital part of an ultimately rational market and the process of price discovery which is a central part of the functioning of s rational and honest market..on the other hand many companies -in which management funds the companies by doing continuous obnoxious death spiral convertible instruments with hedge funds- blame shorting for the inevitable price collapse that incinerates current outside shareholders...
