Indeed, "What we do to one-another and have done over time is a pity."

Morning True, not all is good or marvelous but interesting. We did find, if you locate a well heeled name, it usually leads you further to the family outcasts or peasants.

With the French connections, there are those who fought along the side of Lafayette http://www.ushistory.org/valleyforge/served/lafayette.html

But then, there are those who rode with Morgan's Raiders who had a brother on the other side of the battles!

The Indian connection, she was hid from records in GA for a very long time, but then finally appears as an elder in the AL census with part of the family. Several had left for the Great GOLD chase out West.

Its like a Treasure Hunt which can become all consuming. I was knee deep in it years ago with help from my Sister-In-Law. It helps to connect with someone following the same trail.

The D.A.R. was a great resource which helped me locate a local distant cousin from the same line, she's now deceased. A lot of her records came from the Mormon's (before computer connections) and Allen County in IN https://www.genealogycenter.info/fwacdb.php

The Filson Club in Louisville has amazing History records.

Frankfort KY also has great records with land and Old Scripted Wills which will make you go, Say What?

NC, SC, GA and other Southern records are the most challenging due to the fires.

It just takes the will for a great challenge, and the need to understand our History, be it good or Bad!!!
