Given the size of his investment, I would suspect that Conrad contacted in person to pitch the company. I recall at least two lawsuits against Conrad alleging he had lied about various details in contracts, so it wouldn't surprise me if history repeated itself.

Probably all depends on whatever contracts were signed and what they said. Desperate people in desperate situations -- Conrad may have figured he didn't have anything lose himself.
