June 26-The weather has moderated. Still, after the skies cleared, it got hot again, and I didn't have it in me to do much. The trees along North Tryon Street provide a shady canopy. I spent part of the afternoon hanging around on a bench on the sidewalk. When I got off the bus on the return, as soon as I emerged from under the railroad bridge I was hit with a blast of hot air. All that asphalt on the property radiates the heat.

I did manage to put in 5 broccoli seedlings. I spade up the soil, set it aside, fill the hole with manure, add a handful of Tomato Tone, and incorporate it before transplanting. I'll see if these young plants can overcome the damage done by the cabbage looper caterpillars.

I picked some Fatalii peppers. They're pretty. But dangerous. The 6th hottest in the world.
