If this is true, I wonder what desperation measures the Neocons may have in store next? Obama was repeatedly outfoxed by Putin, and it's possible that the US is finally forced to throw in the towel on removing Assad, at least for now.
But the US now has its own military forces in Syria, so if there is a serious enough provocation (another fake gas attack blamed on Assad), then the Neocons could then try toppling Assad using US forces directly and not have to rely on their 'anti-Assad rebels' (ie ISIS). It would take mega amounts of chutzpah, but we've seen it before.
The source of the info is the Washington Post, which has always been the CIA's favorite mouthpiece for disseminating info/disinfo, and this article may just be a disinfo piece.
Or it's possible Trump has thumbed his nose at the Neocons, in which case the Donald will feel their wrath. Or the Neocons may just be facing up to reality (ie they lost, for now), and will regroup and resume their anti-Assad obsession at some future time.
The Neocons have suffered a big setback over the past 5 years with Syria, but these 'basement crazies' won't ever give up. Reagan eventually kicked the Neocons out of his administration, and under Bush Jr most of them were gone by 2007. But they always come back.
