It’s no secret that the technology underpinning federal and defense systems is old, outdated and sometimes decades behind where it needs to be, but there’s no quick fix for IT modernization. The Obama administration and previous Congress saw successful and bipartisan IT reform - FITARA - bolster IT accountability and mission outcomes across government, yet agencies this year will still spend three-quarters of their IT budgets on legacy tech. Now, a new bipartisan effort - the Modernizing Government Technology Act - coupled with an executive order from the Trump administration, further elevates the importance of modernizing federal systems.

Can the new Congress and Trump Administration tackle IT modernization successfully? On June DATE, we’ll discuss possible strategies the administration might employ to update its old technology, explore the potential impacts of new legislation and delve into case studies of agencies that have addressed modernization challenges.
