Sunday my oldest son took me to a Django Reinhardt festival in Los Angeles. It was marvelous. There was a fine talk given by a man who has written many books about Reinhardt.
As a gypsy youth and young man he lived and traveled in a wagon, entertaining from town to town. He was discovered by jazz musicians in France. His first instrument was the banjo and he learned and favored the guitar.
We heard music as it was played back then but with full sound instead of the thin and sometimes tinny sound of 78s and re-recordings on CDs.
