Man am I sorry to hear that your fixtures were sweated in. Ouch. The builder saved himself the cost of adapters on both ends and gave you headaches throughout the house. I've heard of using bread to absorb and hold back the water but you're the first person tell me it worked. I may do that when I add the new bedroom and bath next year. Thanks.

The guys at Home Depot will tell you that toilet guts are universal, mainly because it says so on the box but they're not, as you well know by experience. Like you, I may get some reserve parts just to have on hand.
