I find it surprising (and hilarious) that this allegedly big philanthropist merited no obituary, no news story, and no website with any outpouring of condolences by notable people.

The fact is that Bob Lorsch was a nobuddy, and without his endless and shameless self-promotion he would never have made even a blip in the world.

However, the Hyperion sewage treatment plant has renamed the sludge settling pond #3 as "The Robert H. Lorsch Memorial Sludge Settling Unit" for the month of June. Hyperion has also renamed the grit screen (which is the area that screens ~OUTT large, insoluble items like used condoms, wedding rings, small animals like shrews, etc. from the incoming wastewater stream) as the "Kira Reed Lorsch Grit Screen" for the month of June.

Bob's ashes were flushed into the Pacific through the Hyperion sludge effluent pipe into Santa Monica Bay around 11PM last Friday. According to USGC current, sea state, and wind charting, his ashes should have passed the Mexican border sometime in the early hours of today.
