LQD is an asset that performs best in Fall the glorious season for falling interest rates, leading to higher bond and stock prices.

TIP is an asset that performs best in Summer the terrible season with rising interest rates, leading to lower bond and stock prices.

The trend line is a best fit 50/350 exponential moving average which can best be seen looking at the MACD chart.

When the market head down the trend line will break and we'll then be in for another bout of winter or summer. Any long-term play in VXX should wait for the break.
