Just got in from a bike ride the heat. Damn, I'm crazy.

I ran into an interesting situation yesterday on the irrigation system for the big trees on my back yard. A head appeared to be clogged, no water coming out. I tried to change the head but it wouldn't come loose from the riser. So I dug down through roots and about 12" down I found the riser intact but the male end of a horizontal swivel broken off inside the female adapter. The darn thing was under a good-sized root that I didn't want to cut into.

I tried reaching in thinking that I could take out the swivel but couldn't get a good grip. I tell you, I looked at it for a long time, thinking about sacrificing the root. Then it hit me. I had a nipple extractor that the handle was screwed into, the extractor end itself about 3" long with a hexagonal 3/8" head. I got out my Craftsman 3/8" kit, put the extractor into the nipple and hit it lightly to get it seated. I got the ratchet on the other end and started cranking. It came out and now I'm going out to insert a new nipple and blue glue in a new swivel, riser and head.
