Insider gross exaggeration,

I hope you know that Zerohedge is written by people who won't identify themselves. They almost always write negative stories (gleaned from previously published articles on the internet) because they do no original thinking or research themselves. Why do they do that? Because a lot of people go out of their way to look for negativity, and that drives up viewership, and that sells ads.

Below is historical insider transaction history that goes back several years. The years 2012 through 2014 were great years in the market. And there was little to complain about during 2015 and 2016, particularly if you traded stocks and not large indices.

Now, do you see any reason why this year's insider transaction history make market expectations going forward look worse?

I suggest the cyclicality is mostly due to quarterly adjustments of company stock award programs as well as tax season adjustments.

One other very important factor: insiders are often given stock grants. Those are often restricted which means that no tax is owed until the shares are vested (which may happen all at once, or over a scheduled period). But, under Section 83(b) of the Internal Revenue Code, employees can change the tax treatment of their stock awards. Those who choose to make the Special Tax 83(b) Election are electing to include the fair market value of the stock at the time of the grant minus the amount paid for the shares (if they paid anything) as part of their income (without regard to the restrictions).

You can find insider transactions at Yahoo. You will often see smaller stock sales immediately after stock awards. That is often used as a means of obtaining cash in order to pay taxes on the stock exercise or award (in those cases wherein the award is taxable).
