The Eritrean junta also extorts money from expats by threatening and abusing any of their family that remains, and are implicated in murdering journalists and activists abroad that bring their crimes to light. They have already murdered or driven out of the country all journalists and activists inside the country who do not trumpet the party line.

That is also why so many Eritreans are among the refugees trying to make it across the Mediterranean to Europe.
