Violation of Privacy Concerns: Occasionally sensitive private information is posted regarding another member. As a moderator on several boards, I have seen, and been responsible for removing those posts.
However, those posts are still viewable by other moderators, who, in some cases, may use that information for malicious purposes.
I feel that VOP posts should be taken very seriously. "These days", we don't need much imagination to come up with scenarios of how that information can be used "In real life". Already, IHub members have received threatening phone calls, and had their home phone # and addresses posted here.
I have several proposals:
1) When a VOP post is removed, a system function should be alerted to automatically delete the text of the post, so no Mods can read it, even if a mod restores it.
2) Until #1 is implemented, all VOPs should be sent to Admin, so they can remove the text, as quickly as possible
3) The offending poster should get a 1 week ban (Jail) for first offense.
Currently, enforcement of VOP varies quite a bit (that I am aware of), from no action at all, to 30 day Jail term.
IMO, VOP should be treated more harshly than most other infractions, but often it seems not to be.
Recently a member's phone # was posted, with the suggestion of calling and harrassing the member. The post was removed quickly, but 24 hours later, other mods on that board can still see it, and if they wish, pass it on to others.
I hope IHub will consider these suggestions, and those of any other members, and, in some way, handle VOPs in a way that reduces real threats to people as much as possible.
