VIX FIX: Volatility Taxed

The recent rally got a bit of nudge this week as concerns of an upset in the French election subsided, sending major markets soaring. The uptick in stocks this week have also been attributed to a strong earnings season along with President Trump’s most recent promise to revamp the tax code, lowering corporate business taxes significantly. Collectively, these events have heavily impacted volatility, sending the CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) to a three year low, closing at 10.36 on Thursday, its lowest close since 2014. Although the President has taken much of the credit for the positive reaction in markets as his symbolic first 100 days comes to end, with 1,285 days to go, it maybe a new Vol game during the next 100.
