NC Bill Would Force UNC, NC State to Leave ACC If Conference Boycotts State
A new North Carolina house bill would force North Carolina and NC State to leave the ACC should the conference ban the state from hosting championship games again in the future.
According to Colleen Thomas of SportingNews.com, Duke would be unaffected since it doesn't receive state funding.
The state of North Carolina missed out on hosting several sporting events due to the presence of House Bill 2, also known as the "bathroom bill."
The bill stated that people had to use public bathrooms that corresponded with the gender on their respective birth certificates.
During the time the bill was active, the NBA moved its All-Star Game from Charlotte to New Orleans and the ACC Football Championship Game was moved to Orlando, Florida.
On March 30, House Bill 2 was officially repealed and altered.
Following the repeal, the NCAA and ACC announced North Carolina would once again be eligible to host championship events.
