Pssst...The Emperor Has No Clothes–It’s Time to Start Discussing Trump’s Mental State

By Ted Millar on February 24, 2017 at 14:30 pm

Journalist Andrew Sullivan has called on other journalists to start talking publicly about President Trump’s mental stability.

So now, that’s exactly what we’re doing.

Throughout campaign season, Donald Trump’s dubious mental state was more of a punchline. He said and did some outrageous things, to say the least. Who can forget he kicked off his candidacy calling Mexicans “rapists” and “drug dealers”? That shouldn’t have earned him a place out of the gate, but it did.

He claimed he would be the “greatest president God ever created”.

Of Senator John McCain he said, “He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured”.

Who can forget what he said about Megyn Kelly after the first Fox News Republican debate in August 2015: “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.”

And about what he said about the Joint Chiefs of Staff: “I know more about ISIS than the generals do.”

And the lie he told about witnessing thousands of Muslims celebrating after the World Trade Center came down on 9/11: “I watched in Jersey City, New Jersey, where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down.”

He mocked a disabled journalist.

He asserted a judge of Mexican heritage was unfit to weigh in on Trump’s fraudulent Trump University because Trump was proposing to build a wall to keep out Mexicans.

He is an avid fan of known conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

He dismisses climate change as a Chinese hoax, doesn’t tolerate negative criticism, calls people names, admitted committing sexual assault, and lies at such disturbing rate, Senator Bernie Sanders called it “pathological”.

He is President of the United States now, and the punchline is no longer funny. Our president is standing before the world flat-out lying about voter fraud, the size of the inauguration crowd, the state of the economy President Obama left him, unemployment rates, crime rates, and just about everything else.

On State of the Union with Jake Tapper on CNN, Senator Al Franken (D-Minn.), admitted Republican–Republican!–colleagues have expressed concern to Franken about President Trump’s mental health.

Earlier this month, California Representative Ted Lieu reported he is considering proposing legislation that would require a psychiatrist be on staff at the White House. A number of mental health experts concur with Lieu, as do other lawmakers. Representative Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), who chairs the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, told The Washington Post in January he was considering introducing legislation requiring presidents to undergo independent medical examinations, including psychiatric ones.

“If you’re going to have your hands on the nuclear codes, you should probably know what kind of mental state you’re in,” Chaffetz said.

An Chaffetz aide told the Huffington Post the bill would apply to presidential candidates in the future, which would include Trump, who has already filed for re-election in 2020.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said she would support legislation requiring Trump to take a mental health exam.
Representative Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) even suggested Trump is on track to getting himself impeached.

“We cannot continue to have a President who’s acting in this manner. It’s dangerous to the United States of America,” Waters said.

“Right now, the president, with one order, can launch 4,000 nuclear weapons. The nuclear winter would destroy the United States,” Representative Lieu said. “We cannot imagine the framers would have allowed this situation to be in place.”

Call your lawmakers and state your support for legislation requiring Trump and future presidents to undergo psychological evaluations. Donald Trump may have gotten into the White House through bombast and poor attempts at humor the mainstream media ate up, but he works for us now, as will future presidents. It’s too grave a job to be left to mentally unstable leaders.
