This is from a team that paid Chris Capuano $5 million and designated him for assignment 4 times in 2015. The gap between Betances and the Yankees was only $1 million.

Are the Yankees nickel and diming their players to recoup the $26.6 million they are paying A-Rod to be a "Special Advisor"?

Earlier in the week, Hal Steinbrenner, the Yankees’ managing partner, said the team and Betances were too far apart to settle.

Betances said even though he felt "trashed" by the Yankees during the 90-minute arbitration hearing Friday, he had planned to move on Saturday. However, in the aftermath of Levine calling Betances a "victim" of his agent's attempt to change the marketplace, Betances said he reconsidered his position.

"I was planning on putting everything behind me until I was aware of Randy Levine's comments saying I was the victim in this whole process and saying how much they love me, but then they take me in a room, trash me for about an hour-and-a-half," Betances said. "I thought that was unfair."

Furthermore, he said he will have to think about whether he will constantly be available to pitch multiple innings and in the middle of innings.

"It is fair for me to say that," said Betances, who has led relievers in innings pitched and strikeouts over his first three years in the big leagues.

“Is it selfish of me (Betances) just to say now, ‘Hey, guys, I just want to come in for the eighth inning with no runners on, all the time’?”.

He continued: “That’s not the player I am. I try to go out there and battle for my teammates. I try to do the best I can. But now that you go in that room and you see some of the comments, do you put yourself at risk at all times?”

Asked if he would tell the Yankees that he did not want to he said be used a certain way, Betances said, “It’s fair for me to say that.

Randy Levine then proceeded to blame Dellin for the Yankees’ declining ticket sales and their lack of playoff history . . . Bottom line, they had very little good to say about a player who grew up as a Yankees fan and contributed more than virtually any other relief pitcher in baseball.”
