Donald Trump has demanded the US Customs and Border Agents divert more agents to the Canadian border to prevent those living in America from fleeing to Canada. This comes after more than 90 have crossed into Canada illegally, embarrassing Trump around the world.
Dramatic photos capture the moment that eight asylum-seekers, including four children from Delaware, barely made it across the Canadian border on Friday as a US border patrol officer tries to stop them.
A US Customs and Border Patrol officer illegally seizes their passports and questions the man in the front passenger seat of a taxi that had pulled up to the border in Champlain, New York. The four adults and four young children from Delaware, originally fled from violence in Sudan years ago.
The family ran from the cab to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on the Canadian side of the border after the father grabbed his passport back from the US Border agent's hand. By seizing refugee's passports Trump officials hope to make it more difficult for Canada to process the refugees.
Once safely in Canada, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police assisting the brave refugees from America cross the neutral zone to retrieve the luggage they left behind in America. The US Customs and Border agent made no attempt to interfere further with the Canadian Mounties.
One of the Mounties told reporters he volunteered for this dangerous duty because his own grandparents had fled to Canada from Nazi Germany.
Canadian PM Justin Trudeau previously reached an agreement with Tiny Donald Trump to allow Canada to accept American refugees who cross the border illegally. But Trump appears to be reneging on the agreement he made only one week ago.
Trudeau now says he may accept refugees at legal border crossings, to help the refugees avoid harassment by the US Border agents.
