Trumpo put his full ignorance on display, calling for a 35% tax on BMWs.

Earlier today Germany’s deputy chancellor and Minister for the Economy, Sigmar Gabriel laughed and pointed out to reporters that BMW's largest auto manufacturing plant is located in Spartanburg South Carolina. “The US car industry would wake to a nightmare if all the supply parts that are being manufactured by their European subsidiaries were to suddenly come with a 35% tariff. I believe it would make the US car industry weaker, worse and above all more expensive."

In an interview with Bild and the Times, the US president-elect displayed his complete ignorance of the large share of the economy car market in Europe held by Ford Europe and GM which sells American cars under it's Adam Opel brand.

Trump said he would aim to realign the “out of balance” car trade between Germany and the US. “If you go down Fifth Avenue everyone has a Mercedes Benz in front of his house, isn’t that the case?” he said. “How many Chevrolets do you see in Germany? Not very many, maybe none at all … it’s a one-way street.”

Asked what Trump could do to make sure German customers bought more American cars, Sigmar Gabriel laughed again and said: “Build better cars.”

Gabriel added, "I would wait and see what the Congress has to say about Trump's fantasies, which is mostly full of people who want the opposite of Trump.”

The German headline reads:

Dieses Interview dürfte Geschichte schreiben: Donald Trump in BILD, vier Tage vor Amtseinführung!

Erstmals erklärt ein angehender US-Präsident offen und ohne Rücksicht, was er über Deutschland und Europa denkt.

This interview makes history: Donald Trump in BILD, four days before the official launch!

For the first time, an approaching US president declares openly and without consideration or thought what he thinks about Germany and Europe.

Bild reporter Kai Diekmann and London Times reporter Michael Gove document the full range of Trump's ignorance of the world economy.

Trump supporters dance with glee at their leader's stupidity
