The Obama family landed in Hawaii on Friday night for their annual multi-million dollar Christmas vacation to Hawaii.
Daily Mail reported that Barack Obama waved as he stepped off Air Force One with his family at around 11pm at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, adjacent to Honolulu, for the annual family vacation on the island of Oahu. Before taking off from Washington D.C., Obama ended his final news conference of the year by saying “Mele Kalikimaka,” which means “Merry Christmas” in Hawaiian.
The Obamas are scheduled to stay at a mansion they have rented in Kailua until January 2.
The president was accompanied by his daughter Malia, who has missed a number of events as she is on her gap year before attending Harvard University in the fall of 2017.
This comes after it was revealed that Obama has spent a whopping $85 million in U.S. tax dollars on vacations and traveling expenses since he took office. Judicial Watch found that the Obamas have spent at least $10 million on travel each year of their time in the White House.
“Judicial Watch announced today that it obtained records from the U.S. Secret Service revealing that its travel expenses for the First Family’s 2015 Hawaiian vacation cost taxpayers $1.2 million, which bring the total cost of the vacation trip to at least $4.8 million,” Judicial Watch said in a statement, according to The Epoch Times.
Judicial Watch then referred to the Obama family’s 2015 Christmas trip to Hawaii, saying, “This was the Obamas’ eighth Hawaiian family vacation. The trip has become an annual event for the Obamas. To date, Obama’s and his family’s travel expenses total at least $85,029,819.”
Over last year’s trip, Secret Service travel cost to Hawaii cost $1,234,316.67, hotel and lodging costs totaled $1,000,458.63, air and rail expenses totaled $67,964.16, and the Secret Service spent $165,893.88 on car rentals.
