Artguy, I wouldn't even want to be a driver seat non-driver in a self-driving car. If you're not driving you're gonna text or iPad or read a book or be bored to death or sleep at the wheel which you're not even operating. Something goes wrong with the system and you likely won't have any time to react. Desktops freeze and crash regularly to this day. And how about downloadable malware risk? I've also heard that autonomous may be limited by law to highway driving. That really puts a wrench in the works. Will autonomous, even if approved for local street driving in cities, lessen or cause more traffic congestion? And isn't driving still enjoyed by many people? I've also heard Apple just dropped their autonomous effort completely. Might tell us something. I'm not saying autonomous won't have applications (e.g.. the lone harvester on an empty field or a slow moving truck convoy on highways keeping to a lane and manned by human monitors), but to me it seems to be too much VC money and Google retained earnings looking to invent a global need at this point -- selling us the idea of the next great thing.
