Bill to require crowd security for events

After Attempted Bombings, Bill Would Require Security Plans for Large Crowd Events

Seaside Heights, NJ - In the wake of the bombings in Seaside Park and Chelsea, and attempted bombings in Elizabeth, a local state senator is introducing legislation requiring local law enforcement to come up with security plans during events that attract large crowds, such as 5Ks, festivals and professional athletic events.

Meanwhile, one Brick resident is angry Seaside Heights did not evacuate people from its famous Que by the Sea BBQ festival Saturday, held just blocks away from where Ahmad Khan Rahami is accused of planting a pipe bomb that exploded in a trash can in Seaside Park.

A bill introduced by state Sen. Robert Singer (R-Monmouth, Ocean) would require agencies, such as the Homeland Security, to work with local law enforcement to develop protocol to protect the public during large events, such as races, festivals and sporting events. Under the bill, all municipalities, public and nonpublic schools must adhere to the established protocol, unless the governor determines the mandate is no longer necessary.
