Most are not transferable. I would guess that anyone changing would have to liquidate their accounts and start all over. I had to do that with Choicetrade. They were the worst. They blamed everything on their clearing agent. Then they changed clearing firms and they still stunk. They cost me loads of money because they allowed me to buy shares in certain penny plays but wouldn't allow me to sell them. How nice! There was only one penny stock that Etrade allowed me to transfer from them - and part of the reason was because some of the shares were originally bought from Etrade and transferred to Choice. Years ago there weren't too many problems transferring pennies the way there are now. I'm done broker shopping. I have been through a bunch of brokers. All the while I stayed with Etrade from the very beginning - 1996 to be exact - it was like going through an almost-divorce with them and then making up and living happily ever after! They are much better than they were years ago.
