Yes there is no "universally accepted loss accuracy standard". It says it right on the Metricon website:
"The science of loss measurement is in its infancy and no standards are available which permit certification of absolute loss accuracy. However, observance of an essentially exponential loss decay profile is good evidence that the sample is conforming to theory and the loss measurement apparatus is measuring the decay profile accurately. In the absence of a universally accepted loss accuracy standards, we invite and encourage comparative measurements between our apparatus and other techniques."

To answer Wise' question of them having a solid industry reputation. It looks like they are just a company that makes one very specific piece of cutting edge test equipment. Even the design of the test equipment is uncharted territory it seems. Since the polymer science has never been done before, we can assume there is also no standard test method or devices. LWLG conducted a loss measurement using Metricon's method/equipment and it was successful. I'm happy with that.
