What is sad is the presupposition that investors made choices based on one data point. In fact, all that would do is confirm the belief in the value of the company. But, given the range of pricing and variability, it is doubtful anyone made an investment decision based on a single point.

But let's pretend someone did. Why might they believe the valuation was completed? Simple really...if it was stated it had been done and it was intentionally inaccurate, not merely not done but inaccurately described, the CEO, management and the company would be in violation of the law. Specifically, the law is as follows...US Code, Title 18, Part 1, Chapter 47, Section 1001

And as noted, the law is all about precedent...i.e. other peoples opinions...always happy to clear up confusion!
