Several Market closed Monday:
London will be quiet on the first trading day of May
May 1 — the traditional Labour Day or May Day — falls on a Sunday this year, so some countries have moved the market closure to Monday as a “substitution holiday.” There will be no share trading in China, Singapore, Hong Kong and Russia, among others.
However, some major European bourses that take a rest on May Day will be open for trade as usual, as they are in countries that don’t use make-up holidays. Germany’s DAX DAX, -2.73% France’s CAC PX1, -2.82% and Spain’s IBEX IBEX, -2.62% will be open on Monday.
But there will be no trading activity in London UKX, -1.27% as the city’s financial center closes down for the Early May bank holiday. The same goes for Ireland.
Markets are also shut in Greece GD, -0.15% for the observance of the Orthodox Easter.
In the U.S., it’s not Labor Day until Sept. 5, so markets there will trade as normal on Monday.
Pray for A Pain Free Day!
