Point #2 Expanded On:

"2) The Patents they have are worth over $2 billion by conservative estimates. They have thousands, and can easily turn into a patent suing machine on short notice. Or they can sell some. It is great overlooked value.

NOTHING CHANGED HERE. In fact, it's more realistic to say they wrth about $10 billion in worst-case scenario with all these strategic/synergistic acquisitions made recently."

"If BlackBerry gets out of the phone business, that will leave it free to sue its competitors without fear of repercussions. According to one analyst, this could translate into some US$400 million in profits just from royalty payments alone.

Even if we assume only US$200 million in profits, that would still translate into an improvement in the bottom line of approximately $0.40 per share. That’s a huge boost for a company that still needs help to get to consistent profitability."

A Patent Litigator, a qualified specialist on this topic, explains why this is so and why this is correct:

In my personal opinion, I want them to succeed with the new mid-range phones. I think the physical keyboard would be a hit despite consensus opinion. It's a niche I personally would prefer, and I know I'm not alone. Regardless, Point 2 is the key to being hedged here with nothing up upside in the long haul in my opinion.
