Surfaxin was not approved for human use until 2012.

Whatever it was that saved your son's life twenty years ago, it wasn't Surfaxin.

It was likely one of the two most commonly used surfactants, Curosurf or Exosurf, which do exactly the same thing, but probably slightly better.
